The SCUPA Scoop: Vol. 5

Happy New Year from SCUPA!  The year is off to a great start and we hope that everyone has a wonderful 2012.

The SCUPA Holiday Party at Brick Street Cafe was a huge success.  The Sunshine/Social Committee did a great job putting the event together and provided some very thoughtful attendance prizes.  As always with the Brick Street Cafe, the food was amazing.  It was a great way to celebrate the end of 2011!

We had our first luncheon today at the Poinsett Club.  Since our officers were installed, there was no speaker.  We were able to touch base and visit with our fellow members for the first time after the holiday season.

Congratulations again to the 2012 officers:
Barbara Spearman, President
Karen Hall, 1st Vice President of Programs
Marianna Ray, CP, 2nd Vice President of Membership
Laura Charles, 2nd Vice President of Publications
Whitney Horn, CP, Treasurer
Dorothy Huskey, CP, NALA Liaison

Dorothy Huskey announced a few items on behalf of the pro bono committee.  In past years, SCUPA's participation in the March of Dimes Walk prevented us from also participating in Hands on Greenville's HOG day since they usually fell on the same date.  This year, the March of Dimes walk is on April 28th and HOG day is on May 5th.  The pro bono committee has already decided to participate in HOG day.

Dorothy has asked the membership to vote on whether we want to participate in both events or just HOG day.  The March of Dimes walk would involve fundraising and then walking on the day of the event.  HOG day is simply a hands-on day to help out with projects across Greenville.  If you have not already done so, please contact Dorothy at Dorothy.Huskey@mgclaw.com with your vote.  Please note that voting to hold both events does not automatically sign you up to participate in the March of Dimes Walk.

In addition, if the membership votes to do both events, Dorothy has asked for someone to assist her as co-chair of the pro bono committee.  If anyone is interested in taking an active role with the March of Dimes walk, please contact Dorothy as soon as possible.

Following Dorothy's announcements, Barbara Spearman announced that we are in need of someone to step up to chair the seminar committee.  Anyone interested in the position may contact her at BSpearman@collinsandlacy.com

At the end of the luncheon, Barbara Spearman presented Melissia Ford with the President's Plaque in recognition of her service as SCUPA's president for the past two years.  We all thank Melissia for her time and unflagging dedication to the membership!
